Christmas is coming!

Its almost here -
Instead of the old single photo of my kids in the Christmas cards - look what I can do now. Just a few of the things they have been doing this year.

Its not goodbye - its hello!

The end has arrived -

It has been an interested experience, I have embraced some of the sites and I hope I will continue using them. Some I had no use for but at least I know how to use them. I would have liked to sit down with other participants and discuss the experience, a phone call every now and again helped. That is the down side of working in a single person branch.
I will continue to use my blog and my blogline, Flickr is now a favourite as is Del.icio.us and I enjoyed the online generators. I'm sure that the online application tools will be useful, YouTube was also fun. Wikis could be a useful tool for the library (and for me).
The only sites I found that I doubt I will have a use for are LibraryThing, Podcasts and eBooks.

The Seven and 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learning - I'm sure that I approached this experience with them in mind.
  • 1 begin with an open mind - check
  • 2 accept responsibility for your own learning - I got a bit confused and stuck at times but I persevered.
  • 3 view problems as a challenge - and very challenging they were at times
  • 4 have confidence in yourself - I have succeeded
  • 5 create your own learning toolbox - check
  • 6 use technology to your advantage - yes my life will be easier now (at work at least)
  • 7 teach and mentor others - any questions just ask if I don't know the answer I will find it.
  • 7 1/2 - PLAY! Have fun! - sometimes this can be overlooked but overall that's what life should try to be about.

and the curtain comes down!!

Short Attention Spans Don't Help

This will be something that you either embrace or you don't. There was an impressive range of books available so that I'm sure everyone could find something that interests them. I do feel that ebooks could be handy in some situations, but I'm afraid I like my books just how they are now.

Podcasts!!!

This was one of those exercises that I haven't decided if I would find (at my library) a use for. The have been a great tool as I have progressed through Learning 2.0 but ...... ?

Photographs (videos) and Memories

What a laugh - I did enjoy this site. I'm sure the library dominos would be something all of us could do in our down time.

I have included the 1999 Melbourne Cup, this was the last time I managed to get to Flemington, my son was born the following Tuesday.

Too many sites to explore

So many sites to explore - some of them we have been using throughout the Learning 2.0 experience. I went into this one than that one and then I decided that I was just confusing myself with so many chooses. http://www.flickr.com/photos/realjimbob/76201860/

Zoho the go

Zoho Writer!!

It could prove very handy for me as I do tend to use computers as many different sites and I never seem to have the document I want to amend on the computer I am working at.

Like any program the more familiar you become with it the easier it is to use.

In the "sandbox"

Alright it's not a sand box its the beach - but it's still fun.

I added my blog - had a little bit of trouble getting it to work, after reading that if you remove the [ ] brackets it will happen - I did so and yes it worked. Enjoy.

Wonderful Wikis

Wikis are going to be wonderful!! Depending on time (I think I might be harping on about time) I think this could be something of great use for the library.

The Princeton Public Library wikis is a good example of what can be done. http://booklovers.pbwiki.com/Princeton%20Public%20Library

I'm looking forward to exploring this subject further and really think this would be something that our library could explore. It would be an easy way to get book reviews from a wide range of readers (both staff and borrowers). We are always looking for new books (authors) to try.

The Good, The Bad and The Future

"Where will the future take us"
Michael Stephens - "Into a new world of librarianship" enhances the Learning 2.0 technology and puts his perception on the usefulness of it within libraries of today and the future.
In my library which is open for 13 hours a week and has a mainly non computer literate clientele the lessons of Learning 2.0 are not immediately of any benefit - looking to the future where already the local prep are instructed in computer knowledge the need I hope will be greater (as I hope they will become my library users of the future).
No matter how much new technology comes along, I hope that we will always have our wonderful hand held page turning books. Reading in bed would not be the same without them.

Technology Technology Technology

Another site that will need to be explored in greater depth.

The ease with which you can find other peoples -
posts / blogs / videos / photos
- all to do with subjects that interest you.

Yum Yum

Another place to play - Del.icio.us may come in very handy, I have added the buttons to my screen and also tagged some of my Learning 2.0 sites and as time goes on I will make a decision on how handy I think it will be.

What fun to play with......

I seem to be spending a lot of time revisiting past lessons that we have alreading done. Learning 2.0 has introduced me to some lovely places to play. All my friends now know about flickr and also image generators.
I created this from ImageChef

Another Learning Experience

Rollyo!!! I think this site may be useful. Once again it comes down to time which without internet access at home is proving challenging. How much work time can I devote to Learning 2.0 - Sal my shelves are starting to look a little bit untidy, I will have a huge summer clean when this course is over.

Is There A Need??

I don't believe that this site is one that I will have much use for. I have added a few books and intend to check it out further, but until then ........

Fun at Mac Park

Adding captions to photo could be a lot of fun.

This photo of my children was taken in March 05 - they are testing out Alistair Tassies sidecar at Mac Park, Mount Gambier. Its a bit blurry but I think the caption now say it all.

This was done from http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/captioner.php

Wonders will never cease

Wonder what went wrong (with the link) I'll get back to it when I have more time (and concentration).

Am still adding news feeds etc, but it is not all going smoothly so I am moving on.

Have been checking out some very interesting blogs mainly from other people doing 2.0. I am amazed at what can be done with an imagination and obviously time.

RSS "Really Simple Something"

RSS not sure what this is really short for - I think that to really get into this you need uninterrupted time. Not having good access to the internet at home and only working 2 days a week it has been challenging. That has changed today - I have locked myself in the closed library and hope to achieve something.

This is my blogline site - hope it works.

The Power of Electricity

Power (electricity) how this technology has changed our lives. I have always had electricity in my life (except for camping holidays). It is the most wondrous thing, without it our lives are instantly changed.
Waking in the morning to music (the clock radio) a flick of a switch and we have light, a nice warm shower, then tea and toast, all quick and easy because we have power.
Then we have "computers" how did we manage before they became an everyday part of our lives. Can we all remember when the post was the fastest way to send a letter, now an email is almost standard. Think about it Learning 2.0 would not be available and all this lovely technology would be somewhere in the future.
"How spoilt are we?"
The loss of power - what does it mean.
The hunt for candles and lighting the BBQ to cook tea, the fun of sitting in front of an open fire toasting marsh mellows and telling scary stories to the children. Its lovely. But:-
I wouldn't like to live without power for any length of time, I like my creature comforts too much.

Photo magic

Wow, the fabulous things you can achieve with flickr.

I have done this photo with the warholizer. Not certain that it is the effect I want but its been fun experimenting.

I cannot wait to try out a mosaic of my children, something special that I will be able to send with the christmas cards.

I could spend a lot of time at this site trying out all the different ideas that other people have come up with. I just love the range of photos that people have taken. There are some very creative people out there

#5flickr

Hi
I have chosen this image (from flickr) of the pelicans being fed at The Entrance in New South Wales. I have just had some holidays up there and I must say the weather was wonderful. The pelicans are fed every day at 3.30 p.m. regardless of the weather or whether there are any spectators. A local fisherman started the tradition when he used to feed them at the end of his fishing day, one day he was late and they marched across the highway and waited outside his shop demanding food. A tradition was born.
I'm not certain how I got this far. But after a little bit of uncertainty I am quite excited by the fact that I can now place photo on my blog site.

To blog or not to blog - that could be the question.

Here I am attempting to catch up after a nice peaceful holiday (with two children this may not be quite true).

I am looking forward to continuing on with this learning experience and sharing my progress with my work mates.

I will be back next Thursday - hope you all enjoy the weekend and good luck to all the footy supporters out there, I hope your team wins.
